Najarian
Associates provides emergency response services for hazardous waste
spills and leaking underground storage tanks. For
example, our firm conducted emergency response
measures as part of an interagency emergency response
team (along with staff of the U.S. Coast Guard, Monmouth
County Health Department, Red Bank Fire Department and state/local
police). The goal of these measures was to address
potential impacts due to leaking underground storage tanks at a
former gasoline station located adjacent to the environmentally
sensitive Navesink River Estuary.
As the
engineering consultants for the project, our firm
initiated emergency measures, including: (1) placement of
booms, absorbent pads, and vapor control equipment; (2) removal of
four underground storage tanks; and (3) excavation of contaminated
site soils. The project was then referred to the NJDEP Bureau
of Underground Storage Tanks for long-term
remediation.
Another
fast-tracked remediation project was conducted by our firm at a
corporate headquarters construction site. Here,
an underground storage tank system was discovered
during construction, and NJDEP was notified of a possible spill of
petroleum product. Though no groundwater contamination was
detected, contaminated soil was delineated, excavated and
transported off-site for final disposal. The entire process of
NJDEP approval, tank removal, liquid-waste disposal, and
delineation/disposal of contaminated soil was expedited to allow the
contractor to meet his regular construction
schedule. |
